Viking DCH3042 30-Inch Chimney Hood
The DCH3042 is an older Designer series chimney hood, 30 inches wide, with an interior power blower, multi-speed control and baffle grease filters. It was sold before the Custom-series naming took over, and many have hung above ranges for years.
On a hood of this age, the speed switch is a common failure, because its contacts wear with use. Overheat protection tripping is more often a duct issue than a motor one, so we inspect the duct, damper and cap. The lighting may be incandescent or LED on these hoods; we test the bulbs and sockets and replace discolored sockets, which have often been baked by years of heat.
The baffles and blower wheel are cleaned for better airflow. We confirm parts before quoting, give the price in writing and warrant the repair for 30 days.
The speed switch contacts or the motor winding for that speed may have failed. We test the switch and the motor's speed taps. The motor is replaced only if its windings test bad.
