Viking VDD5360 36-Inch Downdraft Vent
The VDD5360 is a current 36-inch retractable downdraft ventilation system. A motorized panel rises behind or within the cooktop to pull cooking exhaust downward, and it slides out of sight when not needed. Instead of capturing smoke overhead, it takes it at the surface.
The lift is what sets it apart. A panel that stops partway or refuses to retract has a lift motor, a chain or screw drive, or a limit switch that has gone out of adjustment, and grease or spilled liquid in the track is a frequent contributor. We clean the track, test the motor and check the switches. The fan itself is tested separately: speeds that drop out point to the control or the motor, and a hot motor to a restricted duct.
Downdraft ducts run under the cabinet, so we inspect that run too. Parts are generally available. A written price comes first, and the repair has a 30-day warranty.
The lift motor, drive or a limit switch may be at its limit, or grease may be binding the track. We clean the track and test the motor and switches.
The duct under the cabinet is long, and any restriction overloads the fan. We inspect the run, the damper and the exterior cap. Duct sections that sag also hold grease.
Yes. Liquids that reach the lift track gum it up or corrode the switch. Wipe up boil-overs promptly and call us if the panel hesitates. Early attention costs far less than a failed lift motor.
