Viking VWH36481 Wall Hood Repair
The VWH36481 is a discontinued wall-mount hood, 36 inches wide and 24 inches deep, fitted with baffle grease filters and sold in several finishes. A hood with this depth captures a lot of rising steam, and it is the blower and the filters that carry the load.
We begin with the blower. A motor that will not start may have a failed capacitor, a seized bearing or a dead speed switch, and a motor that lags at high speed often has a wheel coated with grease. The baffle filters are pulled and inspected; clogged baffles choke the airflow before the motor ever wears out. Lamps are tested separately from the fan, because the two circuits do not depend on each other.
Parts for a discontinued hood are confirmed before we quote. You get the price in writing first, and a 30-day workmanship warranty follows the repair.
A failed run capacitor or a seized bearing is typical. We test the capacitor and spin the wheel by hand before replacing the motor. The capacitor is a small, inexpensive part and the likely culprit.
About once a month for heavy cooking. Baffle filters can go in the dishwasher, and clean ones keep airflow strong and the motor cooler. Hand-washing in warm soapy water works too.
Not necessarily. The lamps have their own circuit, so a burned bulb, socket or switch is the likely cause, and the fix is separate from the blower.
