Viking VRT5364G Discontinued Gas Rangetop
The VRT5364G is a discontinued 36-inch 5 Series gas rangetop, with the TruPower Plus 18,500 BTU burner, a porcelainized surface, VariSimmer control and SureSpark ignition. It still turns up in kitchens built a few years ago. It is a gas appliance with a sealed surface, so the cabinet below holds the gas line and ignition wiring.
In our experience the SureSpark system and the powerful burner are what need work, in that order. An electrode with residue or a connector that has loosened prevents the spark from reaching the burner. The big burner’s ports then clog, which makes the flame lopsided.
A gas odor means leaving the house and calling the gas utility from outside. We always confirm part numbers for a discontinued model and give a written price first, with a 30-day warranty.
The model is no longer sold, but many parts are shared with current tops. We confirm availability and price before starting. Burner heads, caps and electrodes are the parts most often shared.
Some ports are blocked, so gas leaves unevenly. We clean them and check that the cap is flat. A soft needle brush works on the ports, while the cap should be washed and dried.
Often the problem is a dirty electrode or a loose wire. We test the module and replace it only when it fails. Replacing a working module only because the burner clicks would be an unnecessary expense.
