Viking DERT302 Designer Electric Rangetop
Sibling to the DERT301 and also 30 inches wide, the DERT302 is a retired Designer electric rangetop that we meet in kitchens where the owner liked the clean look of a flush electric surface. Everything about its upkeep revolves around current flow: switches, terminals, elements and the wiring behind them.
QuickCook elements are designed to hit full power in about three seconds, and that speed comes from heavy current, which stresses connections. Over the years the terminal block darkens, the infinite switch gets noisy, and an element that used to glow evenly starts to show cold spots.
The visit starts with a look under the cooktop for heat damage. We then measure each element and switch. Prices are written before work, and every repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A cold spot suggests the element coil is breaking down or a terminal is poorly connected. We measure resistance across the element and inspect the terminal for burning before replacing it.
A burned terminal can overheat and damage wiring, so we recommend stopping use of that element until it is inspected. The repair is usually a new terminal and wire end.
They give you small elements for gentle work and large ones for fast boiling. Each size has its own switch, so a problem usually stays limited to one element.
