On Viking induction rangetops such as the VIRT301 and VCRT301, eight flashes with a brief interval mean the inside ambient temperature is too high. The air around the electronics under the glass has gotten hotter than the unit allows, so it limits or stops heating until things cool. This often comes from poor ventilation or long heavy cooking rather than a broken part.
1. Switch all zones off and let the rangetop cool for at least 30 minutes. 2. Clear stored items from beneath the unit and check the vents are open. 3. Open the cabinet doors below if the unit sits above storage. 4. Flip the breaker off, wait one minute, and flip it on again. 5. Cook at moderate power and call us if eight flashes keep returning.
Not by itself. It means the air under the glass got too hot. After cooling and with clear airflow the rangetop often works, but repeated events need a check.
Clearance and ventilation under the rangetop matter a lot. A hot oven or a stuffed drawer below can trap heat, so keep the space as open as the installation allows.
If the pattern returns with clear ventilation and moderate cooking, call us. We test the cooling path and sensors, quote in writing, and give a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
