Viking VQGFS5420 Freestanding Grill
The VQGFS5420 is a retired 42-inch freestanding gas grill from the 5 Series, with a ProSear burner and a rotisserie. It stands between the 36-inch and 54-inch cart grills.
Forty-two inches of grate means several burners sharing a single regulator, and the first useful test is whether a problem follows one burner or all of them. If one lags, we clean its ports and venturi. If all burners suffer, we check the regulator, hose and tank. A flame that lifts from the sear burner is a sign of too much pressure or too much air.
The rotisserie plug, motor and spit fork are checked together. If you smell gas near the regulator, close the tank valve and call the utility from outside. For a retired model we confirm parts, write the price in advance and provide a 30-day warranty.
Excess pressure or too much primary air pushes the flame off the ports. We measure pressure and adjust the air shutter until the flame sits steady.
The outlet, plug, motor or spit may have failed. We test power at the outlet first, then the motor, and check the spit for binding.
We read pressure with a gauge at idle and with all burners lit. A regulator that sags under load or hisses needs replacement. The reading tells us whether the problem is the regulator or the burners.
