VGWTO5240

Viking VGWTO5240 Wok Cooker Service

Most common issues on this model

  1. Hard to light in wind
  2. Flame low at high setting
  3. Spark weak or absent
  4. Burner head scaled with carbon

The VGWTO5240 is a retired 24-inch outdoor gas wok/cooker with a 27,500 BTU burner and a center trivet that adapts the grate for large stock pots. It came after the VGWT241T in the retired list, with the same burner and the same job.

Wind is its everyday enemy. A strong gust can blow out the flame or push it away from the electrode, so we check that the burner head, the electrode position and any wind guards are doing their jobs. If the burner is low at the high setting, pressure, orifice and ports are tested in sequence.

Wok cooking also splashes sauces and oil that bake onto the burner head. We scrape the carbon, clean the ports and watch the flame shape again. If you smell gas, close the supply and phone the gas utility from outside. Parts for this retired model are confirmed before quoting, and we warrant our work for 30 days.

VGWTO5240VGWTO5240 questions
Why is my VGWTO5240 hard to light on windy days?

Wind pushes the gas away from the electrode before it ignites. We check the electrode gap and position, and the burner's air shutter, and suggest simple shielding.

Why is the high setting weaker than before?

Carbon on the burner head and partly blocked ports reduce output. We clean them, then measure pressure and the orifice size to confirm full flow.

Is a wok burner more demanding on the gas line?

Yes, it uses far more gas than a standard burner. A line that is too small starves it, so we test pressure with the burner at full output.
