Viking VGRT244T 24-Inch Outdoor Rangetop
The VGRT244T is a retired 24-inch outdoor gas rangetop with stainless steel open burners. Ignition is a push button that fires a spark from a 9V battery, which is a great deal of convenience and also the first thing to check when the burners stop lighting.
A weak or discharged battery makes the spark slow or absent, and a corroded battery contact does the same. Before we test the module, we replace the battery and clean the terminals. If spark returns, the job is done; if not, we move to the electrodes, the wiring and the push-button switch, all exposed to moisture on a patio.
Open burners also take the brunt of boil-overs, so we clean the ports and check the flame shape. If you smell gas, close the supply and call the gas utility from outside. For this retired rangetop we confirm parts, quote in writing and warrant our work for 30 days.
Often yes. The push-button ignition runs from a 9V battery, and a weak one gives a slow or missing spark. Try a fresh battery; if the spark is still missing, we test contacts, switch and electrodes.
Some owners do, but it is safer to have the ignition repaired. If you do light it manually, keep your face and hands away and never do so when you smell gas.
A boil-over probably blocked part of the ports, so the flame gets less air or gas. We clean the burner, check its seating and adjust the air mix.
