Viking VGQT240 Gas Char-Grill Repair
The VGQT240 is a retired 24-inch gas char-grill from the Professional series. The rangetop line it belongs to also offered griddle and wok/cooker surfaces. Under the grates sit porcelainized flavor-generator plates that catch drippings and send smoke around the food.
Those plates are the parts that age. Years of drippings bake onto them, the porcelain chips, and a heavily coated plate stops smoking cleanly and starts to taste bitter. We remove and inspect them, clean what can be saved and replace those that are warped or flaking. Beneath them, the burner and its igniter need attention too, because grease drips right onto the ports.
If the burner will not light, we test spark, clear the ports and check the valve. Gas smell means shutting off the supply and calling the utility from outside. For a retired model we confirm part availability, write the price before work and warrant the repair for 30 days.
Old grease baked onto the flavor-generator plates smokes unpleasantly and flavors the food. We clean the plates thoroughly or replace them if the porcelain has chipped, then check that the burner flame is even.
Small chips can be cleaned and watched, but once the porcelain flakes or the plate warps, rust starts and the plate no longer spreads heat well. In that case we replace it and show you the old one.
First make sure grease has not covered the ports or the electrode. If you still hear no spark, call us. We test the spark module, the electrode gap and the gas valve in that order.
