Viking VGIB151T 15-Inch Infrared Griller
The VGIB151T is a retired 15-inch gas TruSear infrared griller from the Outdoor Series. It is a compact module that sears with a glowing ceramic burner, so its service needs differ from those of an open-flame grill.
Infrared surfaces hold heat and are sensitive to grease and cold water. Drippings burn into the openings of the ceramic and dim the glow, and a splash of water on a hot surface can crack it. Our check starts with the ceramic, then the igniter, the orifice and the air supply that lets the burner mix gas properly.
A module this small is often installed in a counter beside a bigger grill, so we also look at the gas connection underneath and the ventilation around it. If you smell gas, shut it off and call the gas utility from outside. We confirm part availability for the retired model, give a written price and warrant the repair for 30 days.
Grease or ash may be blocking parts of the ceramic, or a crack may be changing the gas flow across it. We inspect and clean it, and replace the ceramic if cracked.
No, never on a hot surface. Let it cool, then brush it gently. Cold water on hot ceramic can crack it. Never use a spray bottle of cleaner on it while warm.
If the housing is sound, replacing a burner or igniter costs less than a new module. We give a written price so you can decide. Housing damage or heavy rust can change that answer, and we say so.
