Viking VIPR182R 48-Inch Remote Downdraft
The VIPR182R is a retired 48-inch rear downdraft with remote-mounted controls, the widest of the VIPR family we cover. It is a good match for a large range or rangetop on an island, with the controls in a panel nearby.
We start at the remote panel and test the switch and wiring, since that is where most calls begin. After that, we pull the filters, clean the slot and look at the blower wheel and motor beneath the counter. Each speed is tried, and the duct is checked for kinks. With a wide unit, a vibrating blower is a common complaint, so we tighten the mounts and clean the wheel before we judge the motor.
Expect the price in writing up front; a 30-day workmanship warranty stands behind the repair.
The R marks remote-mounted controls. Our checks include that panel and its wiring in addition to the blower and filters. If the remote panel fails, the unit itself may still be fine, and we test it separately.
A loose blower mount or a wheel with grease on it can shake the cabinet. Tightening and cleaning usually stops it. The cabinet acts like a drum, so a small imbalance can sound much larger than it is.
Filters, switches and wiring are straightforward. Specific parts may need ordering, and we tell you about that before work begins. Most repairs are finished in one visit when the part is on hand.
