Viking VUC181 Compactor Repair
The VUC181 is a retired Professional Series 18-inch trash compactor with 3,000 pounds of crushing force and a large drawer. It is styled to match the Professional kitchen, but underneath it is a rugged machine whose most common failure is a ram that does not return to the top, usually from a drive or switch problem.
We service a VUC181 by running a cycle and watching the ram return. A ram that stops low calls for checks of the limit switch, the drive and the track. The drawer is tested for sticking on either side, the key lock for engagement and the start switch for dropouts. The unit stays unplugged while we work inside. You get a written price before parts, and a 30-day workmanship warranty.
The limit switch, drive or a jam can hold it down. We unplug the unit, free the ram safely and test those parts before replacing any.
One slide may be bent or dirty, or the drawer may have twisted slightly out of square. We straighten or replace the slide, check the drawer for twist, and confirm that it rolls evenly.
It prevents operation when removed, as a safety feature. If it does not engage, we test the lock switch, check the key for wear and replace the switch when it is worn.
