Viking DUC181 Compactor Repair
The DUC181 is a retired Designer 18-inch trash compactor, sharing the 3,000-pound crushing force and generous drawer of the DUC180. Under the counter, it handles a household’s daily waste, and the first thing owners tell us is that it is slower than it used to be or that the drawer front no longer lines up with the cabinet.
We repair a DUC181 by testing a full cycle to see where it slows. A ram that creeps may have a worn drive or a binding track. We check the drawer alignment, the safety switch that stops the cycle when the drawer opens, and the area under the drawer for residue. The unit is unplugged before any panel comes off. We quote in writing before parts, and a 30-day workmanship warranty follows.
Worn drive parts or a binding ram track slow it. We run a cycle, listen to the drive and inspect the track for debris or damage.
The switch may be dirty or misaligned, or the drawer may not be seating. We test the switch and the drawer fit. Because the switch protects you from the ram, we never bypass it and replace it if it is unreliable.
If the cabinet and drawer are sound, usually yes. We tell you the cost in writing after diagnosis so you can compare it with replacement.
