Viking induction rangetops VIRT301 and VCRT301 flash nine times with a brief interval when the cookware is not compatible with induction. Induction heats only magnetic pans, so a pan made of aluminum, copper or glass without a magnetic base is not detected and the zone will not heat. Nine flashes is a cookware message, not a damaged rangetop, and it usually clears once a suitable pan is placed on the zone.
1. Switch the zone off and remove the pan. 2. Hold a magnet to the bottom of the pan. If it sticks firmly, the pan works on induction. 3. Center a flat pan of suitable size on the zone. 4. Wipe the glass and the pan bottom clean and dry. 5. If a good magnetic pan on every zone still gives nine flashes, call us.
Place a magnet on the bottom of the pan. If it holds firmly, the pan is magnetic and suitable. Many stainless pans work, while aluminum, copper and glass do not unless they have a magnetic base.
The pan may be too small for the zone, off center, or warped so it does not sit flat. Try a flat pan that matches the ring size and center it.
If several magnetic, flat pans fail on every zone, we test the sensing circuit. We quote in writing first, and repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
