Viking DUC180 Compactor Service
The DUC180 is a retired Designer 18-inch trash compactor, rated for 3,000 pounds of crushing force with one of the largest drawers in its class. A compactor that works that hard needs a clear path for the ram, a smooth drawer and a good safety switch, and any one of these can cause a stall.
When we service a DUC180, we begin by checking the drawer tracks and the ram path for debris. We then test the start control and safety switch, and listen to the drive during a cycle for grinding or chain noise. Unplugging the unit comes first, always. A cleaning of the bin and the area beneath often improves performance, too. Pricing is written down before parts are ordered, and we include a 30-day warranty.
The drive may be worn or the ram may be hitting an obstruction. We inspect the path, test the drive and check the switch settings.
It describes how strongly the ram presses. Over time the drive parts wear, and the force drops. We test whether the ram still moves with its full strength.
The key switch or the start control may have failed, or the drawer may not be fully closed. We test the switch and the safety circuit.
